Welcome to the Sogetsu San Francisco Bay Area Branch.
Founded in 1973, the Branch has 50 years of presenting and sharing the contemporary floral art of
​Sogetsu Ikebana with the San Francisco Bay Area community.

Katsuko Biko Thielke is a beloved Sogetsu teacher in the South Bay. She is well known for her clever and innovative use of bamboo, a favorite material in the Sogetsu school. This is her Demonstration at ArtScapes, the biannual show held in Golden Gate Park.

One Flower One Leaf is a core concept of Sogetsu Ikebana. According to Sofu Teshigahara, a single flower and a single leaf
have all the elements of nature

A "Taisaku" is a large scale, focal arrangement. It can be created
for an exhibition, event or installation in public or private spaces. Master Instructor Misei Ishikawa designed this stunning Bamboo Taisaku arrangement for our 50th Anniversary celebration.

chronicles all the stages of our journey, beginning
with the selection and cutting of the bamboo, then the meticulous
planning  and sketching of the design by  Ishikawa Sensei,
leading up to the final assembly of our structure at the site

     a fun and very creative workshop for our Members
     Creating Sogetsu Arrangements Using Pool Noodles
     which is a lesson from  Book 5

     The arrangements were dynamic and whimsical.
