History

Welcome to Sogetsu San Francisco Bay Area Branch. Established in March 24 1973, the Branch has over 40 years of presenting and sharing the art of Sogetsu Ikebana to our community. Through the Branch’s programs, we hone our members’ artistic skills, ever mindful of the words of Sogetsu’s founder, Sofu Teshigahara (1900 – 1979), that “Ikebana is a formative art” which stresses individual creativity.

Please look through the galleries and enjoy each Sogetsu member's expression of the art of flower arranging. Through our biennial flower shows, we present the many varied styles of Sogetsu Ikebana in a large and professionally staged exhibition.

Our Activities

Picture

Six times a year we hold programs that explain the latest trends and techniques of Sogetsu Ikebana. These workshops and demonstrations are given by our Branch teachers and guest Sogetsu Artists. The workshops provide a stimulating environment in which to learn and exposure to new materials and techniques. The programs are open to all Branch members and guests of all skill levels.

Artscapes, our biennial flower slow, provides a vibrant exhibition for the visiting public. All aspects and variations of Sogetsu Ikebana are on view in a professional designed and staged setting and live demonstrations by leading Sogetsu artists are presented. There is no admission fee to attend.
